The 1980s in fashion history:

Ann Demeulemeester, lead a group of Belgian designers emerged as an influential force in European fashion known as "The Six of Antwerp".

Sportswear brands evolved as fashion brands. Sports clothing and athletic shoes by Nike, Adidas, and Reebok became a fashionable wear.

A further rise of USA fashion designers. In 1985 Donna Karan launched Donna Karan, New York. Calvin Klein expanded his brand. Underwear by Calvin Klein hit the fashion market.

Global clothing retail brands became a fashion phenomenon. United Colors of Benetton became a trendsetting brand. Gap opens its first store outside the United States (London, England, on George Street).

The leading fashion designers of 1980s:

Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Christian Lacroix, Thierry Mugler, Azzedine Alaia, Karl Lagerfeld, Claude Montana, Ray Kawakoobo, Issey Miyake, Yohji Yamamoto and Ann Demeulemeester are among the most influential names in fashion industry of the decade.
